Procrastinating. Picking fights. Over-eating. Isolating ourselves. Skipping work. Shutting down. I believe these are all attempts to avoid uncomfortable or painful feelings. But what if the unwanted thoughts and feelings just didn’t bother us so much? Then we wouldn’t have to use coping techniques that, though necessary at one time, no longer work. By developing an accepting attitude, we become more confident and satisfied in our relationships with others, the world, and ourselves. I seek to help my clients to tap into the most authentic, strongest versions of themselves. I help them to become less controlled by unwanted emotions and thoughts, so that they can live the way they want. This involves learning to be present, compassionate and unshaken in the face of distress. In therapy, we explore family of origin and childhood to get an understanding of the responses clients have developed to cope with stressful moments and people; practice mindfulness techniques and acceptance; and develop self-compassion skills to ease painful emotions when they do come up. I am continually amazed by the transformations people can make in therapy if we trust in the process.

  • Specialized training in Mindfulness-based trauma therapy, Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (Mi-CBT), Adlerian psychotherapy, disabilities counselling and career counselling
  • Over 7 years’ experience working as a counsellor for university students, specializing in students with psychiatric disabilities and emotionally/academically at-risk students
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), 2007 and 2011
