Counselling Philosophy
The human experience has always fascinated me. Growing up, I was always curious about the world, especially about how people navigate it. This is what continues to motivate my work as a therapist. I believe in change and growth, and that these things are a process throughout a person’s life. It is an absolute privilege to get the chance to support and challenge my clients to move towards this change and growth, in whatever way that feels safe for them.
I offer professional, confidential, LGBTQ+ affirmative psychotherapy services for individuals, couples, and families. My approach is integrative and collaborative, this means I will draw on a range of counselling theories to help you progress towards your goals.
My preferred counselling theories for working with individuals include Humanistic, Existential, Experiential, Mindfulness/Somatic, Psychodynamic, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Narrative, Interpersonal, and Solution Focused.
In my work with couples and families, the main counselling theories I draw from are Attachment, EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy), Gottman, Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy, and Family Systems.
I am also sensitive to your cultural and/or marginalized identities and the added complexity this may contribute to your experiences. I am open to your preference to integrate the exploration of these identities into the counselling process.
I am under the consultation / supervision of Dr. Martin Rovers, (mrovers@rogers.com) Ontario Registered Psychologist, for the ongoing development of my professional and ethical learning and for psychological services to my clients. I consult with Dr. Rovers regarding my clients on a regular basis. The receipt you will receive will be in my name, as a Registered Psychotherapist, which is acceptable by many insurance companies (e.g. Sunlife / government, others). If need be, I could issue a receipt in the name of Dr. Martin Rovers, Registered Psychologist, for the counselling services provided by me, a Registered Psychotherapist. It is your responsibility to determine which receipt works for our workplace insurance and benefits.
The regular fee for counselling is $150 (plus HST).
