Ottawa E-Counselling
At Capital Choice Counselling Group, we recognize that physically attending appointments, especially weekly or bi-weekly appointments, is not always possible. This is why we are happy to offer the option of e-counselling, through our offices located in Ottawa. E-counselling is essentially traditional talk therapy through the use of technology. In our case, we offer telephone or Skype counselling.

What Can You Expect from an E-Counselling Session?
An e-counselling session will be much like a traditional office setting session. It will be from 50 minutes to an hour long, and you can expect the same high quality, professional care. If you are using Skype, you may need to create an account and send the contact information to your counsellor. If through the e-counselling process you require worksheets or handouts, your therapist will attach and send them to you via e-mail. E-counselling is not an email conversation with your therapist, rather, it is a face to face (if using Skype) and real time process. You can also be confident in that our counsellors will contact you from a confidential and secure location, meaning that you know that they are not being distracted or that you are being overheard.
Confidentiality in E-Counselling
Everything you say in your e-counselling session is completely confidential. This means that your therapist will not be sharing your information with any outside parties and will take the appropriate measures to protect you and your information. While your therapist is ensuring confidentiality on their end, it is important that you protect your privacy as well. This means that if you are at home, work, or in a public place you need to take steps to protect yourself from being overheard or interference with your session. Secondly, while E-counselling can be beneficial for many clients, it is important to remember that confidentiality with E-Counselling is limited by the security of the technology.
Is E-Counselling right for me?
- I have physical challenges that prevent me from attending sessions in person
- I have work & family concerns that make it impossible to attend during office hours
- I am away at College & University but would still like to continue meeting with the counsellor from my hometown
