Trauma Counselling and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Trauma occurs when someone experiences a shock that creates lasting distress, and often PTSD can develop. PTSD and trauma counselling can help us understand and address the trauma. After an extremely traumatic event, it is normal to feel anxious and depressed, and such an event can also lead to a prolonged condition known as PTSD. But when the agitation, the depression, or the anxiety sticks around past its welcome, it becomes a problem. If this describes what you are currently experiencing, consider calling us or using the tool to the right to book an appointment with one of our trained counsellors.
A period of agitation is to be expected after any one of these events:
- Witnessing or being the victim of violent crime
- Being involved in a car accident
- Experiencing emotional, verbal, physical or sexual abuse
Capital Choice Counselling Can Help
Many suffers of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) may experience flashbacks or terrible nightmares. They may be plagued with fear and anxiety when presented with objects or surroundings that remind them of the event. They may experience wild mood swings, combined with self-destructive behaviour. If you’re currently experiencing trauma or PTSD, you may feel as though your symptoms will never end. You likely feel constantly on edge, waiting for something similar to your traumatic event to reoccur. You are likely experiencing horrible, recurring memories of the event. Luckily, there is help. At Capital Choice Counselling, our team of counsellors can help you address the mental scarring that has left you shaken.
I have attended, with great interest, many Relationships Matter Seminars at St Paul University. The topics are beneficial to everyone who want a better understanding of oneself and relationships. I always come out at the end of the evening with better knowledge and good feelings. Many thanks to the speakers — great presentations!
The seminar I attended was very interesting. The host is very good speaker, he knows what he is talking about and definitely has knowledges to share. I like that it is accessible and entertaining: my boyfriend enjoyed it too, and I believed that it’s partially because of the fact it was funny and instructive.
Relationship Matters offer great speakers on a variety of related topics from online dating to being in long term intimate relationships. They are thought provoking and accessible to the lay person and for anyone with a desire to broaden their perspectives on and possibly improve the quality of their relationships. I am really happy to have discovered this series put on by Martin Rovers, an expert in the field.
