COVID-19 & E-Counselling in Ottawa

woman in therapy session on laptopThe world around us seems to have changed overnight.

COVID-19 has brought with it a new era, what people keep calling “The New Normal.”

Well, there’s not much really “normal” about it all is, is there?

The unsettling and the uncertainty have most of us feeling uprooted – in some way or another. “We’re all in this together,” they keep telling us.

But, despite this “togetherness,” we’ve actually never (in our modern times) been further apart. Perhaps you feel alone in all this? If so, that’s natural. The COVID-19 global pandemic has brought on a wide range of emotions in many of us.

Fortunately, help is available. You don’t have to go through this alone. Ottawa counselling is available – and you needn’t leave the safety and comfort of your home, thanks to Capital Choice Counselling’s e-counselling & tele-counselling services in Ottawa.

E-Counselling & Tele-Counselling in Ottawa

Capital Choice Counselling, a leading network of Ottawa psychologists, counsellors and social workers, offers remote counselling services.

We understand that it may not be feasible for you to attend counselling sessions at a therapist’s office, even as Ontario opens up and we keep our fingers crossed for no future spikes in cases in & around Ottawa.

Many of our existing clients who were involved in ongoing treatment with our Ottawa therapists and counsellors expressed concern at the outset of the COVID-19 shutdown in March 2020. There was, naturally, an expression of emotions including fear, sadness, worry, doubt and more.

Traditionally, we had encouraged in-person counselling and therapy, as the thinking was that it worked better to have a face-to-face meeting, offering an optimum communication dynamic.

Our world, however, was figuratively flipped upside down.

Who knew how long this could go on?

Who knows when things could spike again?

In place of traditional, in-person therapy or counselling sessions, we are pleased to offer remote counselling in Ottawa.

This means, of course, that you need not be physically located in Ottawa. Wherever you are, in the comfort and continued safety of your home, you can meet with an experienced, qualified therapist or counsellor with expertise in the area(s) in which you find yourself struggling.

The best way to get sessions started is to select ‘Our Counsellors by Expertise’ in the menu towards the top of this page. Find a therapist from our network who specializes in what you’re looking for. Then contact them directly to set up your first appointment for e-counselling or remote therapy in Ottawa.

Our remote counselling, tele-counselling or e-counselling services are conducted by experienced, licensed Ottawa therapists, counsellors and social workers – all of whom have made the shift from conventional in-person therapy to remote counselling. They are fully qualified and highly capable of helping you in these times.

COVID-19: Heightened Issues with Depression, Anxiety & More

mean wears covid-19 mask looking out windowPsychologists, psychiatrists and mental health professionals across Canada, the US and around the world have reported sharp increases in mental & emotional health issues such as depression, anxiety and other disorders.

There’s some debate around whether these issues can, in fact, be “caused” (even indirectly) by an unprecedented phenomenon such as the coronavirus pandemic; or whether people who were already either struggling with or prone to (had undiagnosed) mental health issues were triggered by these events.

While the debate is sort of like the old “Chicken & Egg” parable, in either case, it’s completely understandable. To have strong feelings during this time.

For some people, it’s a continuation or recurrence of mental & emotional health issues they’d previously been struggling with – albeit at heightened levels.

For others, now is the first time they are experiencing acute mental health issues – depression and anxiety are the big ones we’re seeing during these pandemic times, but there is a broad range of disorders to be sure.

These are “triggered” by the fear of oneself or a loved one becoming sick; of losing one’s job; of how the bills will continue to get paid; and many more.

Regardless of which scenario you find yourself in, what’s important is to recognize that:

  • These mental health issues you are struggling with are real
  • They’re not unusual (and neither are you)
  • Effective treatment is available

The first step is to recognize the issue.

Especially in times like this, in an era of “unprecedented” this and “challenging” that, you are not “weak” is you seek help. In fact, it’s quite the opposite.

Seeking help is a sign of strength!!

Recognizing that you are struggling and wanting to get better are tremendously positive signs!

We can help.
